Accelerating the Deployment of Offshore wind using Dc technology

A European Industrial Doctoral Network

ADOreD is a European Industrial Doctoral Network, granted under the Horizon Europe  MSCA programme (HORIZON-MSCA-2021-DN, Grant agreement 101073554).

ADOreD runs between October 2022 and September 2026. During this period, the programme will train and educate 19 highly skilled researchers in the OW and HVDC fields in joint supervision and training between the public and private sectors. The network will be training a new generation of young researchers who will convert their acquired knowledge of offshore wind power and DC technologies to face the fast energy transition in their future careers.

The Project covers 3 key research aspects:

  1. Offshore wind: Wind turbines, wind power collection, wind farms and control

  2. DC technologies: AC/DC converters, HVDC control and DC network operation & protection

  3. AC Grid: Stability and control of AC grids

The consortium has excellent coverage of academic universities and Industrial organisations, and the PhD students will be hired partly at universities and partly with industry, to ensure proper integration of the industrial and academic aspects of the projects.

The ADOreD research and education programme thus has two overall objectives:

  1. To educate a group of highly skilled researchers, with an innovative mindset and strong entrepreneurial skills.

  2. To develop the most appropriate models and methods for a coordinated approach to offshore renewable connections to meet a net-zero emission target.
