Project Description

High voltage direct current (HVDC) grids have gained much attention for the renewable energy transmission by connecting offshore wind farms with the onshore grids. Ensuring the reliability of submarine cable based HVDC grids is important. This project aims to investigate potential transients in the HVDC systems during and after faults, thereby evaluate cable stresses associated with these faults and protection actions. Through theoretical analyses and simulations, the project seeks to develop optimal protection strategies for future HVDC cable transmission systems. Overall, this research aims to enhance the resilience and reliability of future HVDC cable grids, facilitating the efficient transmission of renewable energy.

Background

I was born in Shaanxi province, located in the southwest part of China. I obtained my Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. Following this, I received my master’s degree in electrical engineering from the same university, focusing on the characteristics of streamer discharge and corona phenomena in the atmospheric air. In August 2023, I officially joined the ADOreD project.

Motivation

As a doctoral candidate in Engineering, being able to apply acquired knowledge to real-word engineering applications is the most rewarding aspect for me. I have long aimed to apply my academic knowledge and acquired skills to bridge academia and industry. This PhD offers an ideal opportunity for dual engagement in both academia and industry. Through this program, I aim to enhance my personal skills and expand my academic knowledge, thereby contributing to the advancement of HVDC grid technology and offshore wind energy utilization. This pursuit aligns with my career goals, allowing me to make significant contributions while furthering my expertise and proficiency.
